Tractor Soft Block Applique

A while ago I appliqued this tractor on a small square of fabric. It has been gathering dust while I deliberated over what to do with it - one option was to frame it for a little boy's room.

What I eventually decided to make with it was this soft block. I used some of our Incomparable Transport fabric as one of the co-ordinating squares which is perfect for the theme.

A sweet gift for a friend's little boy who I am looking forward to meeting soon - now I have 8 other matching blocks to make to spell out his name!

Starry Christmas Ribbon

This Christmas add a simple finishing touch to all your gift wrap.

This star ribbon is easy to make. Cut star shapes out of paper in your choice of colours.

Chain stitch the stars together. You can mix the colours up or keep them uniform.

I glued Incomparable star buttons in white and gold at irregular intervals along my star ribbon.

I think everyone will have stars in their eyes when opening their gifts this Christmas!

Mosaic Mirror

I used a selection of Incomparable buttons to create the mosaic border for a mirror.

I edged the mirror with copper tape.

I love the way this mirror turned out - it adds a great point of interest to my small guest cloakroom.

My dad and brother are cycling a 3 day mountain bike race this weekend aptly named the Wine 2 Whales because they start on a wine farm, Lourensford, and end up in a coastal town, Hermanus, that is famous for its whale watching. Its about 34C here so they are doubly challenged. I am totally in awe of them.

What are you getting up to this weekend?
Whether its doing something physically challenging or just curling up with a good book and a cup of cocoa by the fire, have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Spooky Spider Bow Tie - Happy Halloween

Halloween is not a very big occasion here in South Africa. I've never quite understood why that is.

I think the kids here really miss an enjoyable evening of dressing up and the sort of neighbourhood camaraderie that makes getting to know neighbours fun...not to mention missing out on lots of candy
(candy is also not a word generally used here.)

Nowadays living out on a farm makes trick-or-treating a little more trick-y than treat-y since its over 3 kilometers to our nearest neighbour!

But we are having a Halloween theme dinner and so are dressing dad up in this fabulously fun bow tie with a seriously spooky spider button...I'm pretty sure he'll have a...er...trick or two up his sleeve to get us back for embarrassing him thank us for the super cool adornment.

Happy trick or treating!

We heart button hearts...

This heart decoration was easy to make and is even easier on the eye.

Cut out a heart shaped piece of stiff felt or thick cardboard and use a glue gun to attach a ribbon for hanging. Then glue on a variety of pretty buttons - I used a selection of soft pink & white  Incomparable hearts and flowers.

Its pretty as a wreath on the door...or a decoration for the Christmas tree...

Or hanging from a door key as a sweet decoration.
